Shoes

Here, I see those that walk the earth each day
With endless permutations on a theme
A strong theme, though, considering the weight
They carry with each thought and ev'ry dream.

There, I see others with unhindered strides
That grow as long as they remain unbound
Adventuring on out, shallow to wide
Unhesitant, expectant all around.

And then, I look at what I walk upon:
It's but a single, candid, faded pair
Of trodden on and dusty overdrawn
Yet silly and familiar things to wear.
