You can't walk into a bookstore
and pull poetry off of its shelves
It must be coaxed, charmed, seduced
sometimes tricked!
Convince it that you'll treat it well
it may think highly of itself.
But when you bring it from its shell
you'll offer to it more and more
let it know that it was you who picked it out
and begin together.
