Home

I came home on May 9th from my first year of college to find those same nourishing rains that fed my creative urges last May when I wrote a poem every day.
I wandered the yard that I had spent so much of my childhood playing and developing in and found memories in plants, sights, and feelings. I wrote down many ideas for short, humble poems and publish them here tonight. They are all labeled "May 9th, 2013" with the subject appended. Please read all nine together; they are meant to be processed, enjoyed, or frowned upon as one work.

Backlog

Think of this as a "rarities" collection. To make up for my lack of new posts over the last two months, I posted several poems that I started over the summer or last fall.

Contest

I have entered into a contest with my fellow poet friend. We will send each other topics to write about every day and complete the poem before going to sleep. Those poems I publish for the contest will be tagged with the label "Contest" and in the post itself I will record the date and given subject. Good luck to both of us!

EDIT: All contest poems can now be viewed with their corresponding dates on the Contest Page, accessible through the button on the top right of this blog, underneath the title.

July Schedule and News

As the updating has been rather spotty now that summer has entered its heat, my new schedule becomes even more lazy: Once I write a poem, I publish it. If I don't manage to write a poem, I will unfortunately (but rather logically) not be able to post a poem for the day.
As a side note, the next few poems posted tonight will be excerpted from my long poem published in early June, "Quiet World," which was composed of several shorter poems in a vague narrative. I am giving the individual poems chances to breathe free from the framework of the longer poem and giving those who may not wish to read a longer poem the opportunity to enjoy the portions of the poem that can stand alone freely.

Returning to My Sisyphean Task

After a week of my modified, reduced schedule, I have determined that the only way to proceed and grow is to continue my one poem a day update schedule. Beginning tomorrow, I will resume my Sisyphean, self-appointed task of grinding out work each and every day.

New Schedule

As of today, I have completed my schedule of posting at least one poem a day for the month of May. Although I missed updates on May 4, May 11, and May 25, I posted a total of thirty-five poems, amounting to a poem for each day with four additional poems. Not all of the poems have been works of the highest caliber, but this self-assigned task has forced me to keep practicing writing and to develop my skills.
I haven't yet decided upon a rigid schedule for these next few weeks, but the general plan is a poem on every Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday at the very least. The idea will be to maintain this minimum schedule in order to ensure that I continue to write while allowing me to focus on "quality over quantity."
I must admit that I have been in many ways treading water this month for some of my posts, though usually not without good reason. At times I have been too busy to compose anything of length or complexity, but my main reason for this is that I have been putting time into composing works on a grander scale than what I have previously attempted. Over the summer, I will be posting some longer works on an ambitious level exceeding my previous poems.

A Poem a Day in May

My general plan for the month of May is a poem a day - This may not be a realistic goal due to my business but it's certainly always fun to give yourself a challenge. I may post multiple poems in a day, but at the end of the month I would like to have at the very least thirty-one poems published in May.

NB: I already missed May 4, but I posted that day's poem at 12:30 AM the next day, and I will be uploading another poem for the actual May 5.

The Beginning

Today I will begin to post poems and use this blog in earnest. As a warning, I may decide to edit and revise my poems long after they are posted. This is a testing ground for ideas as well, and I may post music and other related works such as short stories and non-fiction if I write them.

Thank you for visiting!
