My Mother Must Have Not Been Too Impressed

My mother must have not been too impressed
When I came home with bloods upon my hands.
She made me go upstairs and get undressed.

She made a tourniquet and then compressed
My sticky arm. Not her evening planned!
My mother must have not been too impressed

When my stupidity ruined her rest
Because she grew angry and gave command
That I should stay upstairs and get undressed.

When I was not punished, I had felt blessed
But had she really cared? I understand
My mother must have not been too impressed

But still I wonder – had she seen my chest
Where my aching heart had stopped – façade bland,
My mother never had looked too impressed.
She made me go upstairs and get undressed.
